City Introduction

Puerto Natales is a well-visited town in the southern part of Chile. It is not least known as the gateway to Torres del Paine National Park with its stunning landscapes and vast nature. However, Puerto Natales is a charming town it itself with several sights and nice places for a stroll and a view to mountains and across the waters of Golfo Almte Montt.

You can head out for a walk at the Historical Pier, Muelle Historico, which is a remnant of Puerto Natales’ early 20th-century sheep farming industry. The pier offers picturesque panoramic views of the waterfront and is a great spot for photos. Along the coastline, you can see the Monumento al Viento, which translates into Monument to the Wind. It is a tribute to the strong Patagonian winds that shape the region.

You should also visit Plaza de Armas Arturo Prat, the main square of Puerto Natales. It is a lovely place to relax and soak in the local atmosphere. The square is surrounded by shops, cafes, and historic buildings, especially on the south side where you can see the parish church of the town. If you want to learn about the history and culture of Puerto Natales and the surrounding region, you should visit the Municipal Historical Museum/Museo Histórico Municipal which is close to Plaza de Armas. The exhibits interesting information and stories from indigenous cultures, the early settlers, and the development of the town.
