Liberec is a city in the northern part of the Czech Republic, located on the river Neisse, and is beautifully surrounded by mountains in several directions. The city is known from the 14th century, when it was mentioned for the first time. In 1579, textile production started in the city, and for several centuries that industry defined and developed Liberec, which became one of Bohemia’s most important cities. A new period of growth started at the end of the 1800s, when many new public buildings were constructed.
In the center of the city, you can stroll the square náměstí Doktora Edvarda Beneše, which is surrounded by beautiful houses. On the square you can see Liberec’s beautiful town hall, which was built in the New Renaissance style in 1888-1893 according to the design of the Viennese architect Franz Neumann. In front of the town hall, you can notice the Neptune Fountain, which was erected in 1826 and which was originally a source of drinking water for the citizens.
On the north side of the town hall stands the theater Divadlo F. X. Šaldy, which is the stage for plays, opera and ballet. The theater was built in neo-renaissance in 1885 as the Reichenberger Stadttheater. Close to this you can see the Catholic St. Anton Church, which was constructed at the end of the 16th century. You should also go for a walk to the castle Zámek Liberec, which is located as a city castle with an associated castle park, and to the North Bohemian Museum, which displays history, arts and crafts.
Just outside the city, Liberec’s landmark stands majestically on top of the mountain Ještěd, which has a height of 1,012 meters. It is the 94-meter-high Ještěd tower, which was built 1966-1973 in a hyperboloid shape. You can drive to the tower or take a beautiful cable car ride to the top, which is a nice experience. At the top there is a hotel, a restaurant and of course a fantastic view of Liberec and the surrounding area.
Ústí nad Labem is a city in the northern Czech Republic, located on the banks of the Elbe. It was known as a royal city from 1249, and later in the same century King Ottokar II invited German settlers to develop the city. Over time, Ústí nad Labem was repeatedly destroyed by fires, wars and sieges, and in 1830 there were 1,400 people living here. However, industrialization, settlements and a function as a traffic hub caused the city to boom in the following century.
Today, Ústí nad Labem is characterized by a modern cityscape around the central square, Mírové náměstí. From here you can take a stroll through the city’s streets, where you can, for example, go to Kostelní náměstí, where the Church of the Assumption of Mary is located. The church was originally built in the 1300s-1400s, but it was rebuilt in late Gothic style in the 1880s. The church is known for its leaning tower, which was the result of a bombardment during World War II.
Prague is one of Central Europe’s most enchanting and interesting cities. The river Vltava meanders through the city passing several hills and boroughs, each containing unique architectural gems, elegant squares, green oases and everything else that belongs to a big city.
A meeting with Prague is a meeting with one of Europe’s old and large cultural cities. Throughout the streets of the old town you will find nice architecture, large institutional buildings, churches and historical places where emperors and kings have left their mark over the years. The Old City and the New City are located on the eastern side of the river, and together with the Lessor Town and Prague Castle on the western shore, they make the most interesting parts of Prague.
Jelenia Góra is a city with a rich history, located in the Polish part of historic Silesia. Its history dates back to the 10th century, but it developed rapidly after gaining town rights in 1288. The city was strategically located on the trade routes between Bohemia and areas to the northeast.
There is a lot to see in Jelenia Góra, where city life not least takes place in the cozy streets around the central market square, where the town hall is located. You can also see some beautiful churches such as the Garrison Church and enjoy the view of the center and the surrounding area from the top of the Baszta Zamkowa tower.
