Introduction

Armenia is a beautiful and mountainous country where you have ample opportunity to see beautiful scenery, discover exciting cities and go to some of the many fine and atmospheric churches and monasteries that the country is so rich on. Everything can easily be visited at easy distance from the capital Yerevan.

Yerevan is full of designed buildings in imposing architecture that symbolize the capabilities of Soviet Armenia. Squares and boulevards tie the city together with the central republic square with the opera and the grand stairs and fountains of The Cascade, which is not seen alike anywhere in the world. The Cascade is a must to be seen, and at the top of it all stand several monuments such as Mother Armenia.

From Mother Armenia you can look out over the Armenian landscape, and the volcano Ararat stands almost directly above the city with a very beautiful silhouette. From here, it is not far to some of the interseting Armenian provincial cities such as Echmiadzin, which is the seat of the Armenian church.

In the landscape south of Yerevan there are several world famous sights such as Khor Virap and Garni Temple. There are other nice daytrip opportunities nearby too; eg to the beautiful and high-lying Sevan Lake. Northern Armenia's green mountains with river valleys and beautiful monasteries are also unforgettable and worth a trip.
