Introduction

Bulgaria is a country that is beautifully located between the mountains of the Balkans and the waves of the Black Sea. From the mountain massif in the west, the Balkan mountains divide Bulgaria into the flat area of the Danube Plain and the Thracian Plains, and it offers rich variety and many opportunities for activities.

The capital, Sofia, offers countless beautiful buildings from the last many centuries, and ruins from the Roman settlement of Serdika have also been preserved. Here are a lot of things to see, for example, from the time of the country during the Ottomans and from the communist era of the 20th century, where an imposing architectural style characterized the cityscape.

There are many interesting Bulgarian provincial cities. From Sofia you can go to the country's second largest city, Plovdiv, where there are beautifully preserved buildings from the Roman Empire. Plovdiv's old town is also worth a visit, just as both Varna and Burgas on the Black Sea coast are interesting to see.

Many people see Bulgaria on trips to the beautiful and child-friendly beaches that surround Burgas in the south and Varna in the north. The sea is warm in summer time, and lush Bulgaria offers fine ingredients for the country's tasty cuisine. Of course, the food can also be tasted in Bulgaria's cozy mountain towns, where you can also find the famous monastery in Rila.
